[KDE Packaging!] Updates, News, Whatever

Hi all,

I'd like to first start off by reminding people that this particular
list (kde@tdyc.com) is for general KDE Linux Packaging Project notes,
discussion, whatever. Distribution specific lists have been set up
to give people more specific avenues for discussion.

The main reason I bring this up is that it looks like we might be adding
a new distribtuion to our lists here. So far we have Debian and RedHat,
and we were recently contacted (and waiting for more information from)
the fellows over at Mandrake.

To tell you the truth this is getting kinda scary. :) so much for
taking care of my own issues. hehehe....

Anyways, you haven't heard from me in a while so I wanted to give you all
a heads up on what's going on.

1> KDE 2.0 development is in full force. Stephen Kulow had recently been
working on the Debian packaging of it fixing all the stuff I broke. :) I
have actually been able to successfully build kdelibs and koffice. I'm
waiting a bit longer before I throw them up (probably tomorrow or tuesday)
just to make sure I'm not going to break anything else. The goal is to
allow those who want to try them out (remember they are beta) to do so
without breaking anything currently on their system.

2> I've been working alot on the web site. I'm working on some back end
for managing the package list and giving the whole site a common look and
feel so that all sections (redhat, debian, future sections) all look
similar. The package listing will be dynamically built soon...I'm still
working on plugging in all the information and fixing up the backend stuff
so we can manage it easily. The goal is to allow people to easily see/get
the latest information/files.

3> The BTS (bug tracking system) seems to work, but is a bit buggy itself.
The good news on this is that I know what's buggy and I can work around it.
So please keep using it for all your reports. I will be making the modifications to it soon to handle redhat packages as well.

4> RedHat packages are showing up left and right now on the site. Stay
tuned for the RedHat page to show up online.

5> For those of you in Debian land wanting to help package stuff, I'll be
throwing up some guidelines (well, more like helpfull hints) for packaging
of files. This way everything you get from here is known (or should) work
with everything you get from here. (and hopefully Debian itself)

Ivan
